Holiday Crayons

What do you do with all your broken crayon bits?  Make new crayons of course!  Here are some holiday crayons I made with my 2 year old son.....

Would you like to make some?
Preheat oven to 250 degrees
Gather your broken crayon bits and take the paper off
Then assort them into the mold (I used a Wilton rubber mold I got at Jo Ann Fabrics last year in the candy section after Christmas).
*TIP* Put the mold onto a baking sheet (The mold is really bendable and it is difficult to get the mold out of the oven without a baking sheet under it without spilling the hot wax)

Put them into the oven for 10 min or so.....I checked them at 8 minutes to see if they were all melted.
Once all the crayons are melted take the baking sheet out of the oven.
BE VERY CAREFUL because the wax will be HOT and melted so you could burn yourself.
Allow the crayons to cool and harden.

ENJOY your crayons!

  2. Awesome idea! We gave away TONS of broken crayons to art teachers over the years! I guess we now know what they did with them. Wonderful idea Jill!
